Tsolmandakh Munkhuu grew up in Mongolia, surrounded by her religious and cultural references. She studied at the Atelier Chardon Savard and she still lives and works in Paris. Her creative projects remain, however, very much imbued with the land of the Steppes. Her collection transposes, through contemporary clothes, certain elements of Buddhist culture. For example, the motifs of skeletons and skulls are to be found embroidered, cut out, re-transcribed, in materials that have been skilfully reworked. These designs are combined with imposing volumes, which are the result of pleating, appliqués, and layering. Whilst certain lines are inspired by traditional elements (epaulettes), or by monk’s clothes (notably the ceremonial headgear of the Grand Lama), this designer has also taken inspiration from the use of shapes in car air filters. The draped effects accentuate the theatricality of this collection, which is an accumulation of energy, power, and mystical force. From this monochrome black emerge Amazonians, who possess an imposing stature and a conquering stride.
